2025 Historic Spencer Shops Train Show
My family and I attended the 2025 Historic Spencer Shops Train Show at the North Carolina Transportation Museum last weekend. It had been a couple of years since we last visited the museum, so it was nice to go back and check it out.

The train show featured several items from additional model train displays, railroad motor car rides, rare rail cars from the museum's collection, and local vendors selling model train items and other railroad collectables.
Additionally, the museum's main exhibits and passenger train rides were available.

Railroad motor car rides were part of the attractions at the museum. |
The museum is very popular with railroad enthusiasts, old and young. Personally, I enjoy being able to bring the camera and take pictures of the various engines, cars, and equipment - there is always something you have not seen before on display.

The locomotives (steam and diesel) are always impressive. The hard work of the museum staff and volunteers to restore railcars, airplanes, and automobiles is on display in the roundhouse or the back shop.

Take a ride on restored passenger cars for a taste of railroading. The passenger train ride is a pleasant 25-minute ride through the former Spencer shops yard. I always find the ride through the yard and the dozens of railcars in various stages of restoration the most interesting and photo-worthy.
For the train show, the back shop was full of over two dozen vendors and rail clubs selling model train sets, railroad collectables, or displaying samples of their model train layouts.

The 2025 Historic Spencer Shops Train Show is just one of the many events held annually at the Transportation Museum. Later this year, the museum will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Southern Railway's 6133 diesel engine.
