Essex Revisited

I first blogged about Essex in February 2010 after a Sunday afternoon drive into Halifax County.  Looking back at that photo album, I found a few interesting finds from this community.  Essex was founded by free slaves and incorporated in 1893.  An internet search doesn't come up with much more about this rural community at the intersection of NC 561 and 43.

This appears to be an old apartment building.

This is the former Mills Outlet Store - the curtains makes me think that it's possibly someone's home now? I am pretty sure that the sign used to hold 7UP Logos.

This business is operating.  The Rufus Richardson General Merchandise store.  I should have went inside.

If you know anything about any of these places or more about Essex, drop a comment please!
