Glen Ayre

GLEN AYRE - Mitchell County Community at the base of Roan Mountain.  Known originally as Little Rock Creek and Brighton, it is named after the Ayers family.  Descendants of the Ayers family still live in the area today.  It appears that a number of post offices had operated nearby from 1879 to 1919.  Brighton from 1879-1899, Little Rock Creek 1874-1916, Glen Ayre 1883-1919.
