Stony Point

STONY POINT - Located along NC 90 and the Alexander Railroad in Alexander County, Stony Point has operated a post office since 1826.  The community was first settled in 1789 and initially named Stoney Point.  The 'E' was removed in the 1830s.  When the Statesville & Western opened the railroad through the area in 1887, a railroad station was built at Stony Point.  The station was named Sloan or Sloans Station; however, the original name of Stony Point stuck.
